A Brief overview of Wicca:
When witchcraft is practiced as a religion, it is called by the Old English term for witch, Wicca. This term is used to counter all the negative stereotypes that society has given witchcraft. Wicca is primarily a religion that worships nature, and sees all creation as sacred. In fact, all Wiccan holy days follow the cycles of nature and the changes in the seasons. Wicca also worships both a male and female deity, a female Goddess and a male God, who had together created the world and everything in it.
Witchcraft is neither black nor white. Witchcraft is a religion that respects Mother Nature and She is neither completely positive or completely negative, this is the same for witches.
Spells are used by Wiccans, and are a series of rituals and prayers that are conducted in witchcraft to ask for divine help in a certain aspect of life. All spells must adhere to the witchcraft code of conduct, meaning that any spells used to harm another person is forbidden. In witchcraft, spells may also be changed or adapted to suit a Wiccan’s personality or specific wishes in casting the spell.
What exactly is witchcraft, spells, and magick?
Twenty years ago, I asked myself those same questions, and I’m still learning the answers. My journey started at 15 years of age, with a very understanding mother and a visit to New Age Shop. I remember entering the shop with a sense of awe, and instantly being put at ease by a wonderfully sweet aroma that hung over the bookcases. Yet, out of all the potions, oils, and books that filled the place, the one thing that stood out to me the most was the man behind the counter. He looked more like George Clooney than something out of Halloween Fairytales, and that was my first lesson. Witches look just like everyone else. Of course you may run into the occasional witch who looks more fiction than fact but other than those, most are just your average Joe, the majority tend to choose to blend in as much as possible. Why? Not everyone is armed with 21st century thinking, and in some cases, witches are put into the same category as Satanists, heathens, and just generally bad people.

There are a number of really useful and good protective wicca spells which we can use to ward of the evil influence of others. The most important of those wicca spells which the Wicca Pentacle recommends is the wiccan silver sphere spell. The spell is a visualisation spell. Step 1. In our mind’s eye, imagine that a transparent, or invisible sphere is forming itself around us. As the sphere forms, we will be aware that if we want we can reach through it safely and indeed walk about and do everything that we might want to do were the sphere not there. When the sphere has fully formed, we can move on to … Step 2. Again, in our mind’s eye we will cause a thin film of silver to form itself on the outer surface of our sphere. Again too, as the shere takes on its silver exterior we will be aware that neither our movement our movement or thoughts are constrained by our new defence. We can conduct ourself as if the sphere were not there. Step 3. We will now cast our wicca protection spell, by seeing in our inner self that the reflective silver coating of our sphere will reflect all malevolent spiritual forces. The silver will simply mirror back to the source that ill will so that anyone trying to hurt us will bring that hurt not on us but on themselves. Step 4. Now we add our favorites list by declaring within ourselves those near and loved ones who can have access to our inner protected spirit. The silver surface will not reflect them away but open to them when they approach Step 5. To conserve our energies, we will set an alarm which will allow us to switch the sphere off. We need only say to ourselves, “Sphere switch off.” and it will disappear. However, should a threat near, it will automatically alert us and reform before any harm can befall us. Such a spell has so many uses, and is much favoured by paranormal investigators when malevolent or disturbed spirits may be about. |

How to Get Lucky
From Reader’s DigestFor centuries, people have recognized the power of luck and have done whatever they could to try seizing it. Take knocking on wood, thought to date back to pagan rituals aimed at eliciting help from powerful tree gods. We still do it today, though few, if any, of us worship tree gods. So why do we pass this and other superstitions down from generation to generation? The answer lies in the power of luck.Live a Charmed Life
To investigate scientifically why some people are consistently lucky and others aren’t, I advertised in national periodicals for volunteers of both varieties. Four hundred men and women from all walks of life — ages 18 to 84 — responded.
Over a ten-year period, I interviewed these volunteers, asked them to complete diaries, personality questionnaires and IQ tests, and invited them to my laboratory for experiments. Lucky people, I found, get that way via some basic principles — seizing chance opportunities; creating self-fulfilling prophecies through positive expectations; and adopting a resilient attitude that turns bad luck around.
Open Your Mind
Consider chance opportunities: Lucky people regularly have them; unlucky people don’t. To determine why, I gave lucky and unlucky people a newspaper, and asked them to tell me how many photos were inside. On average, unlucky people spent about two minutes on this exercise; lucky people spent seconds. Why? Because on the paper’s second page — in big type — was the message “Stop counting: There are 43 photographs in this newspaper.” Lucky people tended to spot the message. Unlucky ones didn’t. I put a second one halfway through the paper: “Stop counting, tell the experimenter you have seen this and win $250.” Again, the unlucky people missed it.
The lesson: Unlucky people miss chance opportunities because they’re too busy looking for something else. Lucky people see what is there rather than just what they’re looking for.
This is only part of the story. Many of my lucky participants tried hard to add variety to their lives. Before making important decisions, one altered his route to work. Another described a way of meeting people. He noticed that at parties he usually talked to the same type of person. To change this, he thought of a color and then spoke only to guests wearing that color — women in red, say, or men in black.
Does this technique work? Well, imagine living in the center of an apple orchard. Each day you must collect a basket of apples. At first, it won’t matter where you look. The entire orchard will have apples. Gradually, it becomes harder to find apples in places you’ve visited before. If you go to new parts of the orchard each time, the odds of finding apples will increase dramatically. It is exactly the same with luck.
Relish the Upside
Another important principle revolved around the way in which lucky and unlucky people deal with misfortune. Imagine representing your country in the Olympics. You compete, do well, and win a bronze medal. Now imagine a second Olympics. This time you do even better and win a silver medal. How happy do you think you’d feel? Most of us think we’d be happier after winning the silver medal.
But research suggests athletes who win bronze medals are actually happier. This is because silver medalists think that if they’d performed slightly better, they might have won a gold medal. In contrast, bronze medalists focus on how if they’d performed slightly worse, they wouldn’t have won anything. Psychologists call this ability to imagine what might have happened, rather than what actually happened, “counter-factual” thinking.
To find out if lucky people use counter-factual thinking to ease the impact of misfortune, I asked my subjects to imagine being in a bank. Suddenly, an armed robber enters and fires a shot that hits them in the arms. Unlucky people tended to say this would be their bad luck to be in the bank during the robbery. Lucky people said it could have been worse: “You could have been shot in the head.” This kind of thinking makes people feel better about themselves, keeps expectations high, and increases the likelihood of continuing to live a lucky life.
Learn to Be Lucky
Finally, I created a series of experiments examining whether thought and behavior can enhance good fortune.
First came one-on-one meetings, during which participants completed questionnaires that measured their luck and their satisfaction with six key areas of their lives. I then outlined the main principles of luck, and described techniques designed to help participants react like lucky people. For instance, they were taught how to be more open to opportunities around them, how to break routines, and how to deal with bad luck by imagining things being worse. They were asked to carry out specific exercises for a month and then report back to me.
The results were dramatic: 80 percent were happier and more satisfied with their lives — and luckier. One unlucky subject said that after adjusting her attitude — expecting good fortune, not dwelling on the negative — her bad luck had vanished. One day, she went shopping and found a dress she liked. But she didn’t buy it, and when she returned to the store in a week, it was gone. Instead of slinking away disappointed, she looked around and found a better dress — for less. Events like this made her a much happier person.
Her experience shows how thoughts and behavior affect the good and bad fortune we encounter. It proves that the most elusive of holy grails — an effective way of taking advantage of the power of luck — is available to us all.

I ask because I think I just found my own lucky charm–in bracelet form! Here’s the story:
The other day, jewelry partners Jill Heller and Amy Heilberg stopped by the Glamour office with their lust-worthy line of hand-picked vintage and contemporary jewelry. At the end of our meeting they pulled out their passion piece–The Abundance bracelet.
Inside each abundance bracelet is a mantra (of abundance), given and blessed by spiritual healer Jenny Lethbridge.
I decided to give the spiritual thing a test-drive, and after trying on the bracelet, I was met by some seriously fortuitous events.
First, I met a woman who works for UN World Food Program (WFP), an organization which offers nutrient-packed meals to children in school. During our rendez-vous we were chatting about Lauren Bush and how she is raising awareness for the WFP with the FEED foundation and her new super-cute FEED bag
Then, the very next day I found my self-sitting next to Lauren Bush at a restaurant! Crazy right?
Next came an unexpected bit of good news: After waiting two months for my deposit from my old apartment to come back, the magic slip finally showed in my mail box!
Now for the biggie: Tomorrow I am supposed to meet with Melissa–the lifestyle go-to girl–of askmelissa.com. When I googled Jill Heller this morning for some more info on her fabulous pieces, none other than askmelissa.com popped up with a post on Jill Heller, and what was the story on? Lauren Bush’s FEED bag!
Aren’t all of those connections wild? It was as if everything was meant to be! I’m attributing all those awesome happenstance things to the Abundance bracelet because the days that I don’t wear it are just ho-hum.

A-Rod may have a new lucky charm.
The New York Yankees slugger, who sparks even more celebrity gossip rumors than he does MLB rumors, recently went public with movie star Kate Hudson, and he’s been on top of his game ever since, raising his average to .259!
His average since their first public smooch on July 25 is up almost 25 points. And not only is he hitting home runs off the field (if you know what we mean!) he swatted two balls out of the yard in a weekend sweep of the Boston Red Sox as well.
Yankee fans are pleased with the impact his relationship is having.
“It’s gotta help him out a little,” said baseball fan Mike Grassi, 20, from Long Island. “I would definitely play a lot better if I had her as my girlfriend.”
“He’s got a hot girl on his side,” agreed Erik Vesper, 22, a Yankees backer from South Plainfield, N.J. “It’s making up for all of her terrible movies.”
K-ROD: Kate Hudson and Alex Rodriguez have gone public.
The bubbly blond Kate Hudson, 30, has been rooting for Alex Rodriguez, 34, all summer, laughing and waving from a front row seat at Yankee Stadium.
The New York Daily News caught up with the actress last night at Los Dados restaurant in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District and she declined comment – but smiled – when asked if her presence has been helping A-Rod’s game.
The MLB’s active home run leader made his relationship with her official at the team’s family picnic day, cuddling and smooching for the cameras. Since that day A-Rod is batting .283 and striking out a lot less … in more ways than one!
On Saturday, Hudson even brought parents Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell to the game. The family went wild as the Yankees beat the Sox, 5-0.
We think they’re onto something here …

With Kate Hudson cheering boyfriend Alex “A-Rod” Rodriguez in the stands, the New York Yankees slugger has been hitting the ball out of the park.
“Sitting on the front row, Kate goes nuts when she watches him play,” says a source who has seen her at Yankees games this summer. “Her excitement and cheering are infectious.” And it shows: The Yanks beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-5 Tuesday night, their eighth win in nine games.
Last weekend in New York, Rodriguez, 34, hit two home runs in three games against arch rival Boston Red Sox, including a two-run beauty in the bottom of 15th inning late Friday night, the first score of the epic game.
On Saturday, Hudson, 30, brought mother Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell to the game. The entire family went wild as the Yankees beat the Sox, 5-0. The following night, Rodriquez hit another homer, helping the Yankees win all four games in the series.
It was ladies night Sunday for Hudson, who dropped by NYY Steak at the stadium after the game for drinks with some of the wives – Michelle Damon (Johnny Damon’s wife), Joanna Garcia (Nick Swisher’s girlfriend) and Erin Robertson (David Robertson’s wife). Kate sipped classic martini while eating and chatting with the ladies.

But it’s not just home field advantage. Last Wednesday in Toronto, Hudson sat in a private box at Rogers Centre, watching the Yankees beat the Blue Jays, 8-4.
“After the game, she went underground to wait for A-Rod,” says an eyewitness. “When he arrived, they hopped in his truck and took off together.”
Since their relationship became public in July after they were caught smooching at a Yankees family picnic, Rodriguez has been on top of the world. According to statistics reported by New York’s Daily News, his batting average is around 25 points higher than his season average.
Unlike Tony Romo – who showed poorly as Dallas Cowboys quarterback last season while he was dating Jessica Simpson – Rodriguez has shined like a constellation since Hudson came into his life.
The slugger, who is divorced with two daughters, Natasha, 4, and Ella, 1, has been in good spirits and told reporters Saturday that he feels “freer” and more “liberated” this season.
Rodriguez and Hudson met last November in Miami Beach when a friend introduced them at the grand opening party of the renovated Fontainebleau Resort. “They stood around talking and laughing and seemed to really click,” says a source at the event. “At the time, A-Rod was hanging out with Madonna.”
In the spring and early summer, Hudson, also divorced (and with a son Ryder, 5), has been spotted at Yankees games in New York, Miami and Tampa-St. Petersburg. In Atlanta, she watched his game on TV at Morton’s steakhouse bar while munching on a salad.
“They have their young kids in common, and are really having fun,” says a source.
The Yankees play the Blue Jays again in New York Wednesday at 1 p.m. Then it’s on to Seattle – will Kate be there?
