Four leaf clover

is the most well known lucky symbol around the world and across many very different cultures. It is the most common yet the rarest to find. On average, there are 100,000 three leaf clovers for every instance of a true four leaf clover.

According to legend of western cultures, each of the four leaf clovers represent one theme.

The three leaf clover (a shamrock) does not bring luck because it does not include the last leaf of luck.

In Irish tradition, a three leaf clover supposedly represents the Holy Trinity – The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. If a four leaf clover is found, then the fourth leaf is considered to bring God’s Grace. They also believe that when St. Patrick was trying to teach the Irish people and others about Christianity, he used the three-leaf to help then understand the concept of the Holy Trinity.

This simple gesture inspired Benson to select the four-leaf clover for the 4-H emblem. He awarded three-leaf and four-leaf clover pennants and pins for students’ agricultural and domestic science exhibits at school fairs that Benson promoted”.
