A Guide to Star Tattoo Designs
In this guide to the best star tattoo designs I like to tell you something about the mythology of stars and why they are one of the most popular choices for tattoos.
If star tattoo design is your choice then you have chosen wisely as this design looks fantastic as a single star on the shoulder or arm for example, or when combined with other tattoo designs.
The most popular place to put your star tattoo is on the feet, ankles, wrist, and just about anywhere else. And as I said previously, stars can be mixed with other designs such as, butterflies and fairies, tribal or dragons, love hearts and the moon.
The star tattoo design has often replaced the cross in remembrance for someone who has passed on.
Star tattoo designs also look great in full arm or back tattoos. A couple of great star tattoo designs I have seen that you may like was a full arm star design theme of our MIlky Way,with Earth, Jupiter and Mars, in really bright colors.
Another example involved the biblical story of the 3 wise men following the guiding star. If you can imagine a full back design of this scene, then you can imagine how good it looked. How about now I explain some of the mythology of stars.
Stars have fascinated people throughout the ages, especially before television, computer games, and pollution dulled the view above us.The sun is usually represented as a god, and the moon as a goddess, and between the two, dominate many of the stories, with the stars coming in a strong third.
In ancient times many stories came about to explain their luminous existence. One myth describes the stars as children of the sun and moon; and because the sun was forever hungry he had no problem in devouring one of his children, and that is why stars make a hasty retreat at sunrise.
The moon, on the other hand, while the sun sleeps, plays happily with her children across the night sky.
My earlier reference to the Milky Way has also a story to tell in mythology, and that is it has been seen as a road between two worlds, a path taken by the souls of the dead on their journey to heaven.
I hope this guide to star tattoo designs has been of some benefit to you. If you like to see more about stars or other popular tattoo designs, then check-out my site at A Guide to Tattoo Designs.

A Few of the More Popular Tattoo Designs
Tattoos come in all sorts of sizes and styles. The reasons why people get tattoos may be wide-ranging, but the styles that stand out remain the same. These designs often end up in a tattoo artist’s most requested stack. Here, in no particular rank, as some of the most highly requested tattoo designs nowadaysAs a side note, my favorite tattoo book is Chooper Tattoo.
Tribal – In recent history, this has turned out to be one of the most requested concepts. Tribal designs obtain their inspiration from the tattoo styles used by aboriginal tribes from all over the world. Of all tribal tattoo concepts, Maori inspired types seem to be the most trendy. I have found a several good Maori designs in Tattoo Fever Ultimate Tattoo Design recently too.
Kanji – These are tattoos done in Chinese typescript. This is most common with people getting their first tattoos. Kanji tattoos are usually translations of a phrase, a name, or a adage. Solo symbols such as life, breath, fire, etc. are also popular.
Stars – For a few reasons, stars are a very popular choice when it comes to tattoo design. It’s popularity may be owning to the fact that the sign is simple, yet can hold a lot of meaning. Of all, it seems that nautical stars are highly favored. Women, however, seem to choose star clusters instead of nautical stars.
Roses and Hearts – Roses particularly are the most requested flower styles.. In the same degree of popularity as the rose is the heart. Often, these two are used jointly.
Barbwire – This is perhaps the most trendy of all band tattoos. They are often requested on the wrists, the arms, the legs or the ankle. These styles also accent or border more elaborate tattoos.
Butterfly – This is especially trendy with girls. This is usually placed on an unseen part of the body – the nape, the lower back, or someplace obscure. Flowers and fairies are popular amongst girls too, although, these two are a favorite of men as well.
Celtic styles and Crosses – These styles are trendy because of their intricateness. Crosses, despite the design, are trendy for their religious symbols.
Tattoo styles in receipt of an honorable mention include the constantly trendy name tattoos – be it a name of a loved one or a stranger, the latter most usually a result of a drunken night out. Pistols and fire also get a honorable mention so do fish, dragons, dolphins, suns, pin-up girls, crowns, the eagle, and wings. Angels and other religious and cultural symbols as well as the Om and the Ankh are also popular tattoo designs.
Although I am a big tattoo fan I always advise against people running into tattoo parlor and demanding tattoo me now, as this can lead to problems later when you regret the design and it is too late. So make sure you get it right!
